The City of Whitehorse is a Grade 1 Pipe Band, based in Nunawading, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
The band is led by Pipe Major George Shepherd and Drum Sergeant Olav Goud, and is a member of the Victorian Highland Pipe Band Association.
The band is really still in it's infancy, its first practice was in July 2014 but with a strong drive and commitment, within 6 months they competed in their first competition at the Daylesford Highland Gathering, in country Victoria, Australia.
In 2014/15 the band competed enjoyed some good successes in its first year, winning all three of the contests it entered.
Daylesford Highland Gathering - 1st Grade 2 (out of 2 bands), winning the Piping. Hawthorn City Pipe band were 2nd and took both the drumming and Ensemble. Ballarat - 1st Grade 2 (out of 2 bands), winning the Piping. Hawthorn City Pipe band were 2nd and took both the drumming and Ensemble. Geelong (Victorian Championships) - 1st Grade 2 (out of 2 bands), winning the Piping, the ensemble and one drumming element. The band was looking forward to competing in the Grade 2 Australian Championships in 2016 and had firm plans to Compete at the 2016 Grade 2 World Pipe band Championships. With the unexpected promotion to Grade 1 in July 2015 the band members are now excited at the prospect in Grade 1 at the 2016 Australian Championships, and still have plans to compete internationally in 2016. Practices: The local pipers practice at the East Burwood Reserve on Monday evenings, drummers on Wednesday and the full band meets each month.
